You have probably noticed that it's the time of year when you can get all 4 seasons in the space of an hour!! Heavy rain, ice, high winds, fog, hail , thunderstorms, sun glare just to mention a few of the problems. This makes driving potentially hazardous so keep assessing the weather conditions and drive at appropriate speeds. Be smart- it's not always safe to drive to the speed limit despite what others may be doing. Use safe following distances to suit the weather-remember the 2 second rule as an absolute minimum in the dry and at least double it in the wet and up to 10 times in the snow/ice. Scan and plan- look to the far distance, plan ahead and slow down gradually to give following traffic timeto respond. Make sure your tyres and minor controls are in good condition and use wipers/washers , demisters and dipped headlights to help you see and be seen. Practice using these while stationary without looking at them so you don't become distracted from the road ahead when using them on the move.
Happy motoring and drive safely
